![]() ABOUT REFLEXOLOGYHISTORY OF REFLEXOLOGYThere is evidence that Reflexology was practised as far back as 2500BC by the Egyptians, a wall hanging was found depicting the practise of reflexology by physicians on patients. Different parts of the foot correspond to different parts of the body i.e. The whole Foot/Body is worked by applying gentle pressure to specific reflex points, giving special attention to 'crunchy' or 'tense' areas, this helps to clear blockages which reflect congested areas, in corresponding parts of the body. You do not have to be unwell to receive a treatment, foot massage promotes a feeling of well being as well as being extremely relaxing, some of the conditions that Reflexology can help are:. WHAT DOES A REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT ENTAIL? At your first consultation a medical questionnaire will have to be completed, this will include question about your past and present health, your lifestyle and diet. Please note that any information given is treated in the strictest confidence. Next you will be asked to remove your shoes and socks/tights and then made comfortable on a treatment couch, if in your own home you will be able to sit in one of your own easy chairs and the therapist will use her own footstool to elevate your feet to a comfortable position. The aim is to make you as comfortable as possible. A cooling wipe will be used before the treatment to cleanse your feet, then a light oil will be used to aid the movement of the therapist's fingers during the treatment. Pressure to specific areas is applied using the fingers and thumbs, you may feel brief discomfort, which is an indication of areas that may be unbalanced or congested and should ease as the treatment progresses. After the first treatment you will be given an aftercare leaflet which you will be asked to read. TREATMENT LENGTH A Full Reflexology treatment takes approximately 1 hour, even though with children and heavily pregnant women, a 1/2 hour Reflexology treatment is recommended. With children, it would be asking a lot to expect a child to sit still too long and for Pregnant women, sitting in one position for too long could become very uncomfortable. HOW OFTEN? Many conditions benefit from regular treatments, and a treatment plan will be drawn up, e.g. chronic conditions would probably need 1 treatment per week for 4-6 weeks, lessening to fortnightly treatments, and eventually 1 per month to maintain bodily balance.
